It’s also one of the easiest letters to learn when writing. An L sound is also one of the easiest to pronounce, making L an overall relaxed letter!

While it’s easy to write and say, that doesn’t mean you can’t do cool things with it. This guide’ll show you how to spice up this simple letter with a fun bubble effect.

We’ll walk you through 6 easy and fun steps to create a cool version of this letter.

Next, we’ll explore additional ideas for making your drawing even more interesting. Now let’s start with the first step of creating an L Bubble!

How to Draw A Bubble Letter L

Step 1

In the introduction to this guide, we talked about how the letter L is one of the easiest to learn when writing.

The lowercase version is just a vertical line, and the uppercase version adds a horizontal section below it.

It’s all pretty simple, but we will make it a little more complex with this bubble letter version. However, we will keep it very simple for this first step.

All you have to do is draw a simple vertical line. It looks pretty straight in our sample image, but don’t worry about it being perfectly straight.

Instead of using a ruler, draw freehand and don’t worry about it getting slightly wavy. We don’t want it to be completely straight, as the idea is to make it look like a bubble.

You’ll see in the guide why we need this as the design takes shape. With this line drawn, we can proceed to step 2.

Step 2

The line we drew in the first step of the guide is the inside edge of the main column of the letter. Next, we draw the top of this part of the column.

This part should be as easy as the first step, if not easier! All you have to do is draw a curved part above the line.

This curves to the left. If you can do the previous row and this one in one motion, that would be ideal, but you can also split it in two if you find it easier.

Don’t worry if you need to practice the motion of drawing these lines because you will learn!

Now that this top part of the pillar is drawn, we can draw the other parts of the pillar in the next few steps, so let’s continue.

Step 3

As promised, we’ll draw the rest of the main column in your letter L bubble in this step. This is accomplished with another wavy vertical line.

Again, it’s okay if your hand shakes and gets a little wavy. In our reference image, you can see that the line has a fairly pronounced dip.

This only makes the letter look even more like a bubble or balloon, which is why we’re not aiming for perfectly straight lines.

After drawing this last vertical line, a space is left at the bottom of the letter.

We will fill this space very soon as we complete the pattern in the next step of the guide!

Let’s start completing this outline once you’re happy with how it looks.

Step 4

Now it’s time to finish the pattern, ready for some fun extra details in the next step. Looking at the letter L, you will see a straight base.

We’ll draw this base in this step, another long curved shape. This base begins and ends where there is space in the previous part.

As always, the line doesn’t have to be perfectly straight, but it should be fairly flat since it forms the base of the letter.

Once you’ve added that line, you’ll see that the outline of that bubble is complete! However, we’re not done yet.

The next step is to add some fun extra details to complete the bubble effect. In the last step, we then add the colors.

Now that you know what to expect, let’s move on to step 5!

Step 5

The outline of your L design is complete, but it doesn’t look like a bubble just yet. We’ll fix that in this step and add other fun touches you might like.

Adding a reflective point is the first step to making it look like a bubble. This can be achieved by simply adding an oval to the top of the letter.

This simple little shape makes the letter look like it’s made out of latex or bubbles, but we’re not done yet!

It still looks flat, so let’s add some lines inside the outline to make it look more airy. We’ve only added a few of these lines, but feel free to add more.

Now you can add some color! However, there is no need to advance just yet.

There are so many ways to make the design even more unique. A fun idea would be to draw a string from the L to make it look like a balloon.

Or you can draw fun patterns or shapes in the letters to make it more visually interesting. These are just a few ideas, but there’s no wrong way to complete this drawing!

You can even create several versions if you can’t decide on just one idea.

Step 6

This is the final step of this guide, and it’s all about having fun adding color to your bubble letter L!

We showed you one way to colorize this letter, but this is a step where you can take charge and add your touch to the design!

In our example, we used a blue color scheme for the letter. Colors can also help the letter feel more like a bubble.

You will see that the color of the letter is darker in some areas than others. We adjusted the lighter colors closer to the reflective oval we drew earlier.

This makes the letter feel less flat on the page and is a cool effect. You can use this technique regardless of the paint you use. So you can always change the color if you want!

You can also take a different approach and create a texture for the letter. It could be covered with fur, scales, or whatever you like by drawing some extra details.

It’s your design, so let your creativity run free and think of cool ways to add colors!
