Thanks to their vast feet, they can jump up to 10 feet and travel more than 30 miles per hour.
The charm of kangaroos has made it a highly requested tutorial. That’s why we created a step-by-step guide on how to draw a kangaroo.
This guide consists of 9 easy instructions paired with simple illustrations to make drawing a kangaroo much easier to Draw A Kangaroo.
How to Draw A Kangaroo
Step 1
Begin by drawing a small perfect circle shape in the top center of the paper. This outlines the kangaroo’s head.
Remember to use light strokes when outlining. Avoid pressing too hard with the pen so you can easily remove parts of the outline that you may not need later.
To ensure the outline is drawn in the correct place, you can create reference lines by drawing an intersecting horizontal and vertical lines on the paper.
The outline of the kangaroo’s head should line up with the vertical line above the horizontal line to Draw A Kangaroo.
Step 2
Draw an irregular oval shape just below the head. The figure should be narrow at the top and broader and curved at the bottom.
Like the head outline, ensure the body outline can be easily erased if needed to Draw A Kangaroo.
Step 3
Draw a lateral U-shaped curve on the left side of the kangaroo’s head. Next, draw a curve below. This forms the snout of the kangaroo.
Remember to erase any parts of the outline that overlap inside the snout. This helps keep your drawing refined and, most importantly, clean and tidy to Draw A Kangaroo.
Step 4
Draw two inverted U-shaped curves on each side at the top of the kangaroo’s head. Try to make the ears uniform in shape and size.
After that, erase from the outline the line that overlaps the inside of the right ear.
Make sure the ears are high and pricked – this is one of the defining characteristics of a kangaroo to Draw A Kangaroo!
Step 5
Did you know that kangaroo can jump up to 10 feet? This is all thanks to their muscular legs and broad feet, among the kangaroo’s unique characteristics. In this step, we’ll draw just that.
Continue by drawing a curved line on the right side of the kangaroo’s lower body to form the legs.
Then extend the line to the left until it forms a lateral U-shaped curve to shape the foot. Next, bring the lineup and complete the right leg and foot shape.
Repeat the same steps on the opposite side of the kangaroo’s lower body. This forms the left leg and thus completes both legs of the kangaroo to Draw A Kangaroo.
Step 6
Draw a narrow, curved shape with a pointed end at the bottom of the kangaroo’s back. This creates the distinctive pointed tail of the kangaroo.
Make sure to draw the tail at an angle, so it looks slightly lifted, as shown in the image.
Step 7
Draw a curved arm with three paws on each side of the kangaroo’s chest. We can create the arm by drawing two parallel angle lines, while the legs are simply three connected U-shaped curves.
Due to the kangaroo’s tilted position, its left arm is not fully visible, unlike its right arm.
Step 8
This step will add details and patterns throughout the kangaroo’s body. This helps make your drawing more polished.
From top to bottom, draw a curved line enclosing the edge of the kangaroo’s snout.
Next, draw a vertical line along its body and a horizontal line to outline its pouch. Remember to add more lines on each foot to create separation between each paw!
Step 9
Draw two oval shapes that stand on the kangaroo’s face. This outlines the kangaroo’s pair of eyes.
Because the kangaroo faces sideways, the left eye should be smaller than the right eye. Next, add a small circle on each eye. Next, shade all the eyes, leaving the small circle inside unshaded on the outside.
Remember to add an outline in the kangaroo’s ears and a line at the bottom of the tail to outline the underside. This adds extra detail to the kangaroo and makes it look more realistic.
Now that we have successfully drawn a kangaroo, it’s time for the most exciting part. In this step, we will choose the colors and color the kangaroo.
The color of a kangaroo’s fur ranges from red to brown, usually fading to a more subtle hue on its underside and paws. You can color the kangaroo with its original colors or use a unique color set. Either way, we’re sure the colors will turn out gorgeous!
